Grief and loss are a natural part of life. As siblings of people with disabilities, we may experience grief in different ways over the course of our lives. So – how do we deal with grief, even as we celebrate all our siblings add to our lives?
Join this free, informal virtual chat hosted by Tennessee Adult Brothers and Sisters (TABS). Local therapist and licensed clinical social worker Leslie Rice will guide this open conversation about what grief can look like for siblings. We’ll explore strategies for understanding and coping with our own grief, as well as supporting our brothers and sisters during challenging times.
Topics might include:
- Childhood sibling roles (i.e., competing for parental attention, family stress and financial worries, sibling caregiving)
- How disability affects our siblings’ lives and opportunities (i.e., milestones like college, employment, marriage, independent living)
- Sibling and caregiving roles in adulthood (i.e., moving, marriage, employment, raising children)
- Losing our parents (i.e., processing our grief while also supporting our siblings through their own grieving process)
- Sibling loss
