Keynote Speaker Bradley Rogers of the Gow School will share social and emotional strategies parents can use to help their child advocate for themselves within the school setting. MTSU Center for Dyslexia Assistant Director Erin Alexander will review the laws and procedures that apply to students with reading difficulties and share strategies to prepare parents to advocate on behalf of their child. IDA-TN Branch member Allison McAvoy will discuss appropriate accommodations for students who struggle to read and strategies children can use to advocate for themselves. MTSU Center for Dyslexia Assistant Director Melinda Hirschmann will provide an overview of Structured Literacy and why it is appropriate instruction for all students, including those who struggle with reading.
