Addressing Mental Health and Wellness with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities during Transition to Adulthood: A MHDD Webinar Series

This presentation will focus on the assessment of mental health in youth who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities during the transition to adulthood years (12-26). The Lifespan Transition Clinic (LTC) at the Institute on Development & Disability (IDD) at Oregon Health and Science University provides assessment, recommendations, and collaboration with community partners for youth who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities. We will describe our methods, provide real-life experience with mental health concerns during transition years, and discuss access to needed services.

Learning Objectives:
Learners will understand the purpose of addressing mental health for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities during transition to adulthood
Learners will gain an appreciation of participation in occupation as part of mental health and wellness
Learners will consider the importance of development when addressing mental health in clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities
Learners will hear from youth and young adults regarding their experience with mental health and wellness during the transition to adulthood

Presenters:
– Kim Solondz, MS, OTR/L is the Occupational Therapy Discipline Director at the Institute on Development & Disability (IDD) at Oregon Health & Science University.
– Maureen DeLongis is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the Institute on Development and Disability (IDD) at Oregon Health & Science University. Maureen has over 20 years of experience working with children and families experiencing Developmental Disability (DD) and Mental Health (MH) needs.
