Participants will explore practical and prescriptive methods that involve the education of youth in secure settings. Information will be shared that can reduce the possibilities of re-offending and increase the opportunities for successful reentry, higher education, and sustainable employment.

Derek Flake, Juvenile Justice & Civil Rights Liaison, TNSTEP
Derek Flake has both personal and professional experience navigating primary, secondary, and higher education about disability advocacy. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Union University and is a 2013 Volunteer Advocacy Project graduate of Vanderbilt University. Currently, Derek is pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Educational Law from NOVA Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. Derek currently serves as the Juvenile Justice & Civil Rights Liaison for TNSTEP.
